Hi Paolo, how are you doing?
Thanks man, I’m doing good. I’m in Berlin right now.
How is it going with the new record?
Well, it’s going really good. It’s quite exciting to be out there. We have a new single out in February so we hope that people like that. We’re finally there where we wanted to be. We always hoped for this success but we never expected it. We’re quite thrilled and happy that we can live out of the music. That’s pretty cool. And it’s very cool to play all the songs live. They all kind of work. Probably, that’s because we recorded with the intention of playing them live. They don’t sound a lot different than on the record.
How did you come up with the band name?
We took it from a fable from Richard Bach which is called „Jonathan Livingston Seagull“. It’s about a seagull who is trying to live on his own and in a way it’s poetically what the band is. We’re also trying to do our own thing. But still, we get compared to other bands which is flattering. Some people say that we’re similar to Snow Patrol or Radiohead, others mention Muse or John Mayer. But in the end, we try to do our own thing. But the bands people mention are really important bands for us like John Mayer or Dave Matthews Band. We also like Tool and Jimmy Eat World. We all have different musical backgrounds.
What can we expect from the upcoming tour?
We’re looking forward to playing as many songs as possible. We put a lot of effort into our live shows and we hope that our fans will like it. We’re rehearsing two weeks beforehand so that everything is tight. We’ll also come to Switzerland in the end of March. It’s about three years ago when we played a show in Zurich. I’ve been to Switzerland a lot of times. I’m from Italy so I always have to drive through Switzerland when I’m going to Germany. And I’ve been to a basketball tournament in Zurich when I was in school. And of course, I know that you have beautiful watches and good chocolate.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We’re touring in March and we hope that we can also visit Sweden, South Africa, the USA and Japan. We also want to do some festivals and shoot the video for the third single. And we’re also working on new songs. We don’t know when we’re going to release it, at the moment we’re enjoying this record and we don’t feel a lot of pressure.
What do you think about file sharing?
I think there are two sides. For the musicians, file sharing is bad because they want to earn money for their hard work. But on the other hand, we rather want to have the people have the music and come to the shows. I think you lose this when you are too consequent on this.
Thanks a lot for the interview and see you in Switzerland very soon.
Thanks, see you soon.
